N+ Santa Muerte: A Cult In the Shadow of Traditional Faith

In Mexico City’s neighborhood of Tepito, devotion to Santa Muerte flourishes in the margins of traditional religion. This photojournalistic project documents the intimate rituals, street altars, and everyday lives of her followers — people who seek protection, healing, and dignity from a figure often misunderstood or stigmatized.

Through close access and environmental portraiture, the work explores faith, survival, and the powerful role Santa Muerte plays in a community living in the shadow of mainstream belief.
